Well.
First there was this guy, tearing all the bark off a tree in front of the house…
and then there were these creatures we ran into on our way to the beach…
all of those creatures together started hunting these creatures…
and came up with handfuls like these…
Then of course, *snif* there was this little guy…
Sal.
Ah, Sal, your time with us was brief, but your memory will live on.
Some of us were VERY sad to see you go…
but with one last hug here…
and another last hug there…
we were able to stand together, amid cries of “I can’t bear it!!” and release you back to your rightful place on this earth. well, we actually upgraded you a little from the giant log we originally found you under, that would have squished your little melon if anyone rolled it over, to a more out-of-the-way treestump where you would live on, safe and well-fed.
and yes, there was a bit of snow that day, thanks.

What an absolutely sweet post!
You have an amazing clarity on your camera. Can you post on your comments what kind of camera you have? I love taking pictures but do not have that kind of clarity and am in the market for a new camera.
Thanks from a fellow adoptive mum

why, thank you justine!!
My camera is a Sony cyber-shot 8.1 mega pixel, model number DSC-H9…it’s silver… what else do you need to know? I was pretty excited to find such a good deal on it, and even more excited to see what nice photos it takes! Someday I’ll have a fancy SLR, but for now, I love me my new camera!
thanks for popping by!

Awww! My daughter has very hard time saying goodbye to any creatures she finds on our outings. We’ve made homes for snails, a great big banana slug she carried along on a 1 hour hike, and a Western Conifer Seed Bug. Somehow the lid keeps getting left off (gee, I wonder who did that?) and the creature finds its freedom eventually. I think a salamander would be grounds for tears the likes of which have never been seen before – but he would definitely be returned to the wild…good for you guys!
Thanks Tiffani!!
Now I can’t wait to buy my new camera!! I have been waiting to find out what to buy and you did the research for me! Smile I will go online and see if I can find it with all your info. I am sure I will; If not, I’ll be back!!
I keep watching your blog – can’t wait to hear you get a referral!!
I have another friend going through Zambia also. You may know of her – Jason and Susan?
Take care! Justine
I found mine at best buy as an “open box” sale — someone bought it and returned it, so they sell it cheaper. Plus we had a gift certificate for best buy, so it all worked out nicely. I am really happy with the photos it takes, but I don’t know if it will be your best deal online… good luck!!
Yes I “know” of Jason and Susan!! we’re all anxiously awaiting together…
I can’t wait to hear we get a referral either!
take care,

yes, while we lived on galiano for a whole month and a half, Isobel was obsessed with these little guys, they were everywhere. In fact it was part of our daily routine to go out to the road past our cottage and save them from certain doom on the roads…some unfortunate souls were squashed by unbenownst drivers, and a few lucky ones were saved by the hands of a four year old. She would make me ( I say make me loosely because I was getting into the excitement of being saviour to the salamanders) stop the car if possible if we saw one on the road while driving…I could spot those suckers a mile away after a month…and then sadly we learned that the little creatures that were being kissed and hugged and loved almost to death, ironically, were actually secreting a little bit of poison every time they were held. Yes, poisonous salamanders…slightly, and if eaten definitely…that little orange tummy is a warning to the wise…although we were not wise…no damage done, probably no real concern either, but my concern did leave the island resident doctor feeling a little uncomfortable about his children playing with the irresistible creatures as well, after his findings…just a heads up…
and nice to find you…:)
